Fishery Sector
The SADC board of directors has established two way communications with the largest fish processing company in the region (Labrador Fishermen's Union Shrimp Company). The processors report that the entire 2J crab quota was caught and processed this year. There was a marginal drop in the Shrimp catch this season, due to late spring ice and rough fall weather. There were low catches in scallops due to low prices and as were Whelks and other under-developed species due to few fishing enterprises prosecuting same. The SADC continue to keep close connection with fishermen's committee in the region, and provide help when an opportunity arises. We worked with resource people to reconstruct the wharf in William's Harbour, and working with groups to address infrastructure challenges in other communities.
