Lodge Bay is the most southern community in the Southeastern Aurora Development Corporation zone. The name came from the name Ranger Lodge which was settled by Captain George Cartwright in the 16th century. Ranger was the name of his first ship and Lodge was the name of his home in England at that time. Prior to the Cod Moratorium, the community was a winter home for its residents, todays population is 78. The main surname, "Pye", came from the English who moved to Cape Charles after staying at Conception Bay. St Charles River that flow through the community is a licensed salmon river.

The community was connected by road to Mary's Harbour in 1991; this was the first interconnected community in south eastern Labrador. Most of its residents are retired and those that work; does so in the nearby Mary's Harbour. The children are bused the 7 kilometers to St Mary's All Grade School on a daily basis. The residents access many of the services from nearby Mary's Harbour. The community is administered by a Local Service District and has a post office, a recreation centre, a volunteer fire brigade with a fire hall and St John the Baptist Anglican Church. It has a recreation committee, Loyal Orange Lodge and a Anglican Church Womens group. Mona's Place is the only grocery store/gas bar and Labrador Twine Inc. is a shrimp gear business located in the community.
